Evaluation

For this unit, I was assigned to understand the concept of photography as well as learning new photographic techniques that would improve my photography skills as well as my images. My first task was to understand how photographers work and how they receive their income, I also had to focus on 3 different genres of photography, the ones I focused on is Street, fashion and travel photography. i had to present this to my class and received feedback for it, one of my improvements i had to do was to focus more on the history and give more examples of photographers of that genre. i mainly focused on street and fashion photography as they have similar styles and both being my favourite genre. I had to present this on a Prezi format, which is my first time using Prezi, and in my opinion i think that Prezi is much more better layed out than PowerPoint and you can make your Prezi interesting which is what i love about it.

From doing that task, it gave me a more understanding of how photography works and becoming a professional photographer takes a lot of training and practise. so since being assigned to this unit, my original plan was to go for a Coven witch theme, this was inspired by the works of Anouk Deyonne, who I've mentioned in my last couple of , she is an alternative photographer who has done work for Killstar and Disturbia using her 'Witch themed' photos to promote the brands clothing line. Her models include Psychara, Wioleth and other well known alternative models. I used one of her photoshoots as inspiration for mine, with my model against a tree and fog beneath the models lower body. I had to create a mood board and mind map to help others as well as myself of what I needed to do in order to achieve what I wanted. I did a lot of research and have scrolled through the Instagram of my chosen photographer, she mainly works with fantasy shoots as well as other themed shoots. I kept with the simplicity that the magazine present, I made a couple of changes to the images and magazine to suit the theme.

Image result for auxiliARY MAGAZINEafter deciding what photographer i was focusing my work on I then had to chose a magazine of my choice to out my chosen photo on the front cover. I decided to go for 'auxiliary magazine' which is an American magazine which dedicates to alternative fashion, lifestyle and music. Founded in 2008, they have adapted their style in which they present their magazines, showing iconic and unique photography, their magazines can only be purchased online, not in local shops, which is why i wanted to go for this magazine, I am very new to this magazine but after more research I fell in love with their theme and decided to use my model and make her into a 'auxiliary front girl'. the thing I love about the magazine is that the front cover always matches with the models aesthetic, so the font colour would be in some what similar to what the model's theme colour is. For my model, as she has purple hair, I decided to colour the majority of the font in a mid tone lilac purple and the rest of the font in white (like on the front pages)

The way the images came out, were exactly how I wanted them to. I very happy with what came out despite the short time I had with the model. If I had more time with my model then I would have grabbed more shots with her in different position and locations as the ones that I shot were quite repetitive and all had similar poses and backgrounds. The one thing I would also improve is using props for the photoshoot or doing a satanic photoshoot with my model, nonetheless I'm still happy with what my model came out with so I'm not too fussed. My target audience for my chosen magazine is mainly alternative women from the ages 16-30 years old  the reason being is that these magazines' would have more female readers rather than male as it is about fashion which is mainly aimed for a female audience, the male gender are becoming more and more into these types of magazines for make up inspiration so this could be aimed for both sexes despite my target audience being mainly female.

If my chosen photographer edited the pictures I took then she would have made my model look a little demonic, beforehand (before the shoot) she probably would have added a lot of props and make up for my model. using all black contact lenses and having skulls and fake bones around my model. With post production, Deyonne would have added a lot of mist and make the surrounding of my model dark and mysterious, like she does with all her images. Deyonne is a professional photographer so she would know what to do to improve on a 'simple' image and change it into something unique and different, if I worked along side my photographer then I would learn and understand how she takes pictures of her models and how she directs them, which is one of my weaknesses that I need to improve one - I'm too shy to direct models. which can be over come with practise in the near future.

In conclusion, this unit was fun and something exciting, it is one for my favourite units - creating your own themed photoshoot and then creating the images into a magazine cover. If i had more time then i would have improved a lot and would have tried out different things to improve my magazine cover. I have learned different photograohic techniuques which could improve my images next time I'm assigned to do this. This has been an exciting experience for me and I'm happy with what i came out with.

Final image

So I decided to go for a mid shot image of my model, posing by the tree. with this I then edited the text on Adobe Photoshop (which is industry standard) with this I then adapted it and tried different fonts and colours to suit the aesthetic I was going for. for the bottom text, I also moved so it wouldn't over lap my model, otherwise it would look as neat as I want it to be. Through more trial and errors and playing around with the settings, I finally created the magazine cover of my choice.  I decided to use the magazine 'auxiliary' magazine, which I a magazine dedicated to alternative fashion and make up, they can be ordered online and cant be bought in shops. The reason being for choosing this specific magazine is because their magazines are so simple, they don't have a lot of text on the front page and the front page model's colour theme matches with the title and text around them.

for extra work, I wanted to use another picture for my front page however I didn't like how they went, either with too much greenery or it doesn't go with my theme. I wanted to stick to the forest photoshoot as I originally planned to so I tired different things to improve the magazine cover as you can see. it was fairly simple and easy to create, as I said, I didn't want too much on the front cover and kept it simple. I much prefer the second image as  the spacing of the font is neat and goes well with the magazine aesthetic i was going for.

Coven Photoshoot

So for my photoshoot, I wanted to achieve a coven themed photoshoot, basically a witch themed shoot. for this I wanted to find a place with a dark atmosphere. On a weekend I had free, I decided to go and meet my friend in my home town of Crawley, we decided to walk around to find a good location, we went through a forest, next the Hawth Theatre. with so much greenery around, it gave a nice dark look to my model. I'm glad I picked her as her purple stands out in the pictures, especially when I photographed her against a purple flower bush. There are a few pictures that came out how I wanted them to, however the downside with the pictures that I see is that they are quite repetitive, if I was to do another shoot, I would have more control on how my model should look and pose as well another reason being is that my model had to go to work right after the photoshoot so I didn't have enough time to do another set of photo's in another location, it would have given me another variety of images I could use. Other than that, I'm quite happy with the way the pictures have turned out. For my front page magazine, I decided to go for a bull body image of my model to show off her tattoos and because there is a glimpse of sun in her face.

for post production, I want to have purple text around my model to go with her hair, it brings the purple in the photos out more and purple (for me) is very eye catching and such a beautiful colour. I will also be adding some for/mist on the lower body of my model to give it a more witchy look to the image. if I had more I would also have bought a skull and candles however due to an overscheduled diary, I hadn't had the time to purchase them, it is not a big deal but it would have been nice to add something extra to the images.

This image was one of my favourite out of all of them. My model's hair goes very nicely with the flowers and the colour between my model and the flowers are similar which gives the image such a nice effect.

I decided to use this image for my front magazine cover for my chosen magazine, as you can see, the sun shines in her face, which I thought in my opinion looked really nice with all the dark atmosphere around my model. With all the greenery around my model, it makes my chosen audience focus on the model rather than the model's surroundings. during post production, as I mentioned, I will be adding fog and darkening the atmosphere around her to make her stand out even more.

Risk Assessment

Here is my risk assessment, before I can go out and shoot, I have to make myself aware of what can happen during the photoshoot. I had to present this to my teacher and get her approval so that I can go and shoot

Mind Map

Hello again guys, welcome back to another post, so to give me a more understanding of my photoshoot and what I'll be doing, I created a mind map with all the branches that I can possible do.

Mood Board

Hey guys and welcome back to my blog, so before I do any planning, I had to create a mood board to round up my inspirations and ideas, as you can see there is an alternative theme, that is because I am into the alternative style myself. I also added the works of Anouk Deyonne who is my chosen inspiration photographer, a lot of her work has a witchy theme which have been used for clothing companies. Deyonne adds this dark atmosphere to her images which make them so unique and beautiful. I also added what

My Idea

Hello again guys, thank you for taking the time to read through my blog, photography is not my strongest topic however the practical with always be my favourite. So for my themed photoshoot I wanted to go for a forest witch coven look for my model and using the woods would be a great opportunity and give a good atmosphere to the picture. I have already contacted a few models to help me with this photoshoot and I chose the model I want. Photo's of the shoot will be uploaded very soon as well as a magazine and planning of my idea. My inspiration for this themed photoshoot is Anouk Deyonne who is an alternative photographer and who has shot for big branded alternative clothing such aa KIllstar and Disturbia, with her models being one of the famous in the Alterative world.

To go into more detail, I will be uploading a video onto this post so you can get a more understanding of what my idea is and how I am going to go about doing it. thank you for reading and keep reloading because more will be uploaded.
