Evaluation

For this unit, I was assigned to understand the concept of photography as well as learning new photographic techniques that would improve my photography skills as well as my images. My first task was to understand how photographers work and how they receive their income, I also had to focus on 3 different genres of photography, the ones I focused on is Street, fashion and travel photography. i had to present this to my class and received feedback for it, one of my improvements i had to do was to focus more on the history and give more examples of photographers of that genre. i mainly focused on street and fashion photography as they have similar styles and both being my favourite genre. I had to present this on a Prezi format, which is my first time using Prezi, and in my opinion i think that Prezi is much more better layed out than PowerPoint and you can make your Prezi interesting which is what i love about it.

From doing that task, it gave me a more understanding of how photography works and becoming a professional photographer takes a lot of training and practise. so since being assigned to this unit, my original plan was to go for a Coven witch theme, this was inspired by the works of Anouk Deyonne, who I've mentioned in my last couple of , she is an alternative photographer who has done work for Killstar and Disturbia using her 'Witch themed' photos to promote the brands clothing line. Her models include Psychara, Wioleth and other well known alternative models. I used one of her photoshoots as inspiration for mine, with my model against a tree and fog beneath the models lower body. I had to create a mood board and mind map to help others as well as myself of what I needed to do in order to achieve what I wanted. I did a lot of research and have scrolled through the Instagram of my chosen photographer, she mainly works with fantasy shoots as well as other themed shoots. I kept with the simplicity that the magazine present, I made a couple of changes to the images and magazine to suit the theme.

Image result for auxiliARY MAGAZINEafter deciding what photographer i was focusing my work on I then had to chose a magazine of my choice to out my chosen photo on the front cover. I decided to go for 'auxiliary magazine' which is an American magazine which dedicates to alternative fashion, lifestyle and music. Founded in 2008, they have adapted their style in which they present their magazines, showing iconic and unique photography, their magazines can only be purchased online, not in local shops, which is why i wanted to go for this magazine, I am very new to this magazine but after more research I fell in love with their theme and decided to use my model and make her into a 'auxiliary front girl'. the thing I love about the magazine is that the front cover always matches with the models aesthetic, so the font colour would be in some what similar to what the model's theme colour is. For my model, as she has purple hair, I decided to colour the majority of the font in a mid tone lilac purple and the rest of the font in white (like on the front pages)

The way the images came out, were exactly how I wanted them to. I very happy with what came out despite the short time I had with the model. If I had more time with my model then I would have grabbed more shots with her in different position and locations as the ones that I shot were quite repetitive and all had similar poses and backgrounds. The one thing I would also improve is using props for the photoshoot or doing a satanic photoshoot with my model, nonetheless I'm still happy with what my model came out with so I'm not too fussed. My target audience for my chosen magazine is mainly alternative women from the ages 16-30 years old  the reason being is that these magazines' would have more female readers rather than male as it is about fashion which is mainly aimed for a female audience, the male gender are becoming more and more into these types of magazines for make up inspiration so this could be aimed for both sexes despite my target audience being mainly female.

If my chosen photographer edited the pictures I took then she would have made my model look a little demonic, beforehand (before the shoot) she probably would have added a lot of props and make up for my model. using all black contact lenses and having skulls and fake bones around my model. With post production, Deyonne would have added a lot of mist and make the surrounding of my model dark and mysterious, like she does with all her images. Deyonne is a professional photographer so she would know what to do to improve on a 'simple' image and change it into something unique and different, if I worked along side my photographer then I would learn and understand how she takes pictures of her models and how she directs them, which is one of my weaknesses that I need to improve one - I'm too shy to direct models. which can be over come with practise in the near future.

In conclusion, this unit was fun and something exciting, it is one for my favourite units - creating your own themed photoshoot and then creating the images into a magazine cover. If i had more time then i would have improved a lot and would have tried out different things to improve my magazine cover. I have learned different photograohic techniuques which could improve my images next time I'm assigned to do this. This has been an exciting experience for me and I'm happy with what i came out with.
